I grew up surrounded by thousands of acres of bushland at a place called Bendigo in Australia. This is where I first had many profound experiences and connections with nature… with kangaroo’s, echidna’s, storms, quartz crystals, mine-shafts, cubby houses.
Then I sort of went AWOL from nature for a while… studying a combined Civil Engineering/Commerce Degree at University, becoming a champion athlete and traveling the world. But it always felt like something was missing. There was a vague sense of “this isn’t me”. A vague sense of ‘something is wrong’. All I knew was that there was an underlying sense of anxiety within me. But when I went into nature again… there was a deep sense of inner peace and calm.
So I ended up taking a year off to fully immerse myself in nature again. I did this full immersion into nature within National Parks and campgrounds. A full 12 months alone to stare out at the mountains. To smell the salt air as waves from the Pacific Ocean crashed against the cliffs. To feel the brush of leaves against my skin in a thunderstorm. Awakening to the wonder and mystery of nature again. Feeling that deep sense of inner peace and calm within. Melting into the oneness of life.
But going back into the cities again – the first couple of times it felt surreal. It felt like I was like entering into an alien world. I observed so much disconnection surrounding me! I noticed the vast numbers of people rushing from place to place. I noticed the anxiety in their systems… the tension in their shoulders; the darting of their eyes and the ever-thinking mind. Yet at the same time a level of boredom in their mood… the waiting in queues, the lack of life in their voices and the lack of spring in their movements. The wonder and mystery missing in their eyes. And inside I felt a sadness welling up inside of me.
A deep sadness as to what was happening to people. Caught up in the endless struggle of the modern world. Out of the natural alignment which is found in nature. Replaced by stress. Replaced by anxiety. Replaced by depression. What some people call ‘Nature Deficit Disorder’.
But it doesn’t have to be this way.
I can see a time when humanity will look back to what is happening around the world right now. To the disconnection from both our inner and outer nature which occurred. I can see a time when people are reconnected again with nature… much like our ancient ancestors had for hundreds of thousands of years. I see a time where each individual is encouraged to find and develop their unique gift to share with the world. I see a time where inner and outer nature converge and align once more.
Will this happen in my lifetime? I really don’t know. However this is what I feel I am on the planet to do. To re-connect people with nature again. To re-discover their true nature in nature… and to share their unique gift with the world.
So that’s why this website is sitting here in front of you today. Because this re-connection happens one person at a time. I fully encourage you to browse through some of the articles and video’s on this site… but more importantly to actually start the journey and practice some of the techniques and exercises. Doing so will transform your experience of what it is to be alive. You will get to feel what it’s like for your inner and outer worlds to align.
Please let me know if you’d like further information, check out the connection programs we have available and make sure to join the Deep Nature Mentoring Newsletter to find out about updates, deep nature connection practices and special offers on the programs 🙂
For the Earth,
I often get asked the question ‘Where did you learn about this deeper connection?’ And I always say that my biggest teacher is nature.
Even when I was working in the corporate world as an Engineer I would go into nature to seek answers. For example, if I was stuck on a drainage design problem I’d literally take that as an intention, immerse myself in a National Park just south of Sydney and see what nature had to say about it. Nature’s wisdom is profound when we take the time to listen… and it is open to everyone on the planet.
